York Hospital Radio

A long serving member of York Hospital Radio, June Snowden, has received the British Empire Medal from the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Jo Ropner.

June has been a volunteer member of York Hospital Radio for 51 years, and was nominated for the BEM by the Hospital Broadcasting Association (HBA), for services to hospital, health and wellbeing broadcasting. June has been President of the HBA since 2000, and has been a member of the HBA Committee since the late 1970s.

Sam Smette, chair of trustees of the HBA, said : “I was delighted to be invited to accompany June to her investiture in Bedale, North Yorkshire. June’s involvement with the Hospital Broadcasting Association over the last fifty years is remarkable, and her role as President has seen her travel the length and breadth of the UK and beyond, visiting our member organisations, championing and supporting the national movement. This accolade is thoroughly deserved.

“We are delighted that June has been recognised by His Majesty The King in the New Year Honours 2025. Her commitment and dedication to hospital, health and wellbeing broadcasting, is truly remarkable. Congratulations, June!”

Ian Clennan, chair of trustees of York Hospital Radio, added: “Many congratulations to June for this well-deserved honour. She has been an inspiration to the hospital radio movement in this country for so many years, and a dedicated member of York Hospital Radio throughout. We are very proud that June started her hospital radio involvement here in York, and has supported us ever since.”

Over the years in York, June has presented many shows for York Hospital Radio, and been closely involved in the day to day running of the organisation.
